March 11-12, 2010 - Our "Ensuring
Small Group Profitability" seminar
will be held in Las Vegas. This
remarkable seminar was designed for group health actuaries
and underwriters. It will show you how to bring your 1950s
style underwriting requirements, pricing methodology, and
rating factors up to the 21st century!
March
25-26, 2010 - Our
"Experience
Rating In Depth" seminar
will be held in New Orleans.
Here's your chance to learn virtually everything there is
to know about experience rating! We'll show you how to make
significant improvements to your experience rating formula
and we'll also show you the many situations where adjustments
to formula-generated rates are required.
Our
"Controlling
Health Plan Costs" seminar
will be held in Las Vegas on April
22-23, 2010 and in Orlando
on April 26-27, 2010. The focus of this seminar
is SELF FUNDED plans. This outstanding seminar will show you
how to sensibly reduce employer health plan costs and control
them to the greatest extent possible. NOTE:
The first module in this seminar deals with Health Care Reform.
As of 2/26/10, it appears certain that
IF the politicians can use the reconciliation approach
and get enough votes to implement the Senate Bill (with some
modifications), they certainly will. They have until sometime
in April 2010 to accomplish this before this option expires.
If they can't implement their "comprehensive" reform,
they will pass some very limited version of health care reform
(i.e., "Obama-lite"). If no legislation
is enacted prior to April 22nd, the first module of this seminar
will provide you with a detailed update of where Health Care
Reform stands, the most likely provisions that you can expect
to see, and the most effective strategies that employers can
use to minimize "reform costs".
HEALTH
CARE REFORM, AND WHY IT'S DESTINED TO FAIL MISERABLY UNLESS
OUR POLITICIANS CHANGE THEIR APPROACH
S.
M. Snow & Associates has been in favor of health insurance
reform for over a decade, however, effective
health insurance reform can only be accomplished if politicians
listen to the advice of a diverse group of highly experienced
health care and health insurance professionals (especially
actuaries) and make sound decisions based on this advice.
After
examining the House and Senate bills, we concluded that our
politicians either received very little good advice from qualified
people or they ignored virtually all the good advice they
did receive. Our politicians have decided that they have
the actuarial and underwriting background needed to effectively
reform our health care/health insurance system! After
watching their Health Care Summit, it's painfully obvious
that they know virtually nothing about the dynamics of group
health insurance (like "adverse selection" and "pooling"
to name a few). Their ignorance will translate into a dramatic
INCREASE in health plan costs if they pass any type of legislation!
Making
matters worse, we estimate that the price tag for what the
politicians refer to as "comprehensive health care reform"
will be anywhere from $3 trillion to $4.5 trillion over a
ten year period! A far cry from the $900 billion they refer
to based on their highly devious "smoke and mirrors"
projection that reflects 10 years of projected revenue but
only 6 years of the associated reform costs. It also relies
on totally unrealistic assumptions throughout.
Immediately
after Health Care Reform legislation is passed (which we're
fairly certain will happen soon), S. M. Snow & Associates
will be modifying all of our seminars as appropriate to
provide our attendees with effective strategies that they
can implement to minimize the "extra costs" and
adverse selection that will result from this unfortunate legislation.
